With a wealth of experience in the hospitality sector, you would be hard-pressed to look further than the expertise of Emily. A penchant for relationship building and utilising a collaborative style, Emily works to people’s strengths and will see the opportunities available to your business.

Hospitality Sector Specialist

Emily has worked within the sales and event teams of many of the most prestigious hotels and venues across the UK. As an advocate for the hospitality industry, she plays an active role as a member of the Site Global Community and held the position of President for the Scottish Chapter in 2018/19. As the founder of Emily Alex, she supports companies to engage with and motivate their teams in this new virtual world. She also works as a business consultant, coach and mentor for the hospitality sector and has a particular interest in the mental health and wellbeing of employees.

Virtual and In-Person

You have the option to meet face to face or via Zoom.

Emily joined the Tricres Partner Programme in August 2021 as part of our second cohort.

She has lived all over the UK, but currently resides in Scotland where she has settled for the last 14 years.

With an extensive background in the hospitality sector, Emily is familiar with all aspects in the luxury hospitality market. From experience in London with The Dorchester hotel, vast country homes, the Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath, and all the way through to the Royal Yacht Britannia Emily is well poised to understand all hospitality needs in the current climate.

Coaching initially came about as a personal side project, but having added certification with NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) it allowed her to proceed with coaching as an option to help develop people which is her passion.

Coupling the hospitality industry along with coaching truly provides the best of both worlds. Emily would love to develop people in this sector because she understands the sector intimately. That also builds trust, and trust is something tangible to a sector that has its own way of doing things.

It’s all about being hospitable

The challenges in the hospitality sector are somewhat different now after the pandemic and the havoc it wreaked on the industry. Coaching can be something to help assist with the changes and challenges that are presented now where there is so much uncertainty, changes to recruitment needs, and even everyday processes and procedures which have certainly changed.

Emily’s key skills are all about relationship building. She is someone who is a good listener with a calm manner who can understand values and strategies.

As a member and former president of the Edinburgh chapter of SITE (Society for Incentive Travel Excellence) membership grew and alluded to her collaborative style.

Using a softer leadership style, Emily uses her creative style to see the potential opportunities and work to people’s strengths.

Biggest Lesson Learned about Business So Far?

Her biggest lesson in business? Learning to trust your instinct and do what you love. “Being brave is a hard act to bring to fruition. The fear of change can be palpable, but doing it anyway is where the magic happens. It’s important to trust that what you’re doing is meant to happen and you’re on the right path.”

It’s also a huge part of finding your tribe and figuring out when to ask for help for those things you aren’t good at. Putting yourself out there feels vulnerable, but by saying yes when opportunities present themselves is a winning result.

Areas of Interest

Emily is looking for clients globally given that she has such a vast amount of experience in the hospitality sector. As such, many hospitality brands have a global presence. But she is equally inclined to work with boutique hotels, standalone prospects, and anything that surrounds the sector like food and beverage.

Outside of work…

Something you might not know about Emily? She’s an adrenalin junkie who likes nothing more than a bungee jump or a skydive. Drawn to the mountains and the sea, there is nothing better than scuba diving or skiing for a holiday!
